Owenstown is a new vision for local communities in the UK. A new town run by the residents for the residents, it will be entirely self-sufficient, generating income that will be ploughed back into the town’s community services.
Situated in South Lanarkshire, an area greatly in need of regeneration, it will be a new town of some 20,000 people living in 8,000 new homes created by 8,000 new jobs. The town will be self-reliant and low-carbon using renewable energy from waste and natural resources.
Founded on traditional co-operative principles, Owenstown will create locally-based jobs in an area of high unemployment and bring economic benefit to businesses in surrounding areas. As the town evolves, more businesses will be attracted to the area generating greater employment.
Owenstown will give people the chance to make decisions for themselves, opening up real opportunities and creating a real sense of community.
