Owenstown is a new vision for local communities in the UK. A new town run by the residents for the residents, it will be entirely self-sufficient, generating income that will be ploughed back into the town’s community services.
Situated in South Lanarkshire, an area greatly in need of regeneration, it will be a new town of almost 10,000 people living in over 3,000 new homes creating by 5,000 new jobs and a further 4,000 during construction. The town will be self-reliant and low-carbon.
Founded on traditional co-operative principles, Owenstown will create locally-based jobs in an area of high unemployment and bring economic benefit to businesses in surrounding areas. As the town evolves, more businesses will be attracted to the area generating greater employment.
Owenstown will give people the chance to make decisions for themselves, opening up real opportunities and creating a real sense of community.
